RCCGB Folly Farm 2016

Date: Friday 12 August 2016
Venue: Folly Farm
Who Went: Me and a large number of other RCCGB members, including Andy and Christine Hine, Alan Hunt, Big Stevie B, Kelly Cameron, Mark and Margo Lewis, Planenut, Ryan Hackett, Wendy Adams Evans.

DISCLAIMER: The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of everyone who attended. It's a small sample of attendees; mainly those I spoke to and/or rode with at Folly Farm. I sincerely apologise to anyone I've not listed.

Rationale for Trip
A pre-Oakwood add-on to RCCGB Mega-GLOW-Mania 2016, a visit to Folly Farm near Kilgetty. The itinerary was the same as 2015 and previous years: (i) the daytime was free for everyone to enjoy the Park amenities at their leisure, (ii) after closing time the day culminated in an exclusive fair session in the Vintage Funfair, including a basket meal in the Funfair Restaurant. For the purposes of Mega-GLOW-Mania 2016, you could think of this visit to Folly Farm as the starter, and the Saturday visit to Oakwood as the main course.

N.B. Any use of "today" or "Friday" hereafter in this report means Friday 12 August 2016. Any use of "Saturday" means Saturday 13 August 2016.

Friday First Thing
Having awoke at 7:30 I had breakfast at 8:40 consisting of a choice of cereal (I had cornflakes), a glass of orange juice, a full Welsh breakfast (1 fried egg, 1 hash brown, 1 sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, 2 grilled tomato halves, baked beans, chopped mushrooms), four triangles of toast and a carafe of coffee. That certainly filled me up for the morning!

Welcome to Folly Farm
Since I was staying in Begelly for the first time, I walked all the way from my hotel to Folly Farm. The walk, which was mostly uphill, took me about ten minutes. I reached Folly Farm approximately 10:30. According to the trip letter, we were officially due to enter as a group at 11:00. However Folly Farm was already open, and the general public were being admitted, so I joined one of the admissions queues. I was asked if I was on my own; I answered I was for now, but other members booked on the trip would gradually arrive during the day. Anyway I was admitted without further difficulty. I asked if I was the first member booked on the trip to arrive, the receptionist said I was.

Normal Opening Time

Follywood
I began the day in the Follywood area across the road. To get there I had to walk through The Jolly Barn and subway. When I got to Follywood, the land train was scheduled to have its first run of the day at 11:00. Rather than stand and wait for the driver to start letting visitors on, I went into another Follywood attraction, Percy's Piggery.

Percy's Piggery
This Follywood attraction is home to various breeds of pigs. These included Welsh Pig, Saddleback Pig and Mangalitza Pig. Pens extend outside both sides of the building, so that the pigs can go into those external pens. Thus one can see the pigs from outside the building as well as inside, depending on where the pigs are at a given time.

To see the rest of Follywood one needs to go for a ride on the Land Train. By the time I got back to its departure point, the first train of the day had already gone. Evidently it must have left before 11:00. Nonetheless other people were waiting there, and thankfully It wasn't long before it was back to provide the next run.

Land Train
The train set off along a track, and passed various animals along the way. Unlike the last couple of years, the train didn't stop at the far end to let riders off to walk along a nature trail. No explanation was given, and I didn't bother asking. The return route was slightly different to the outward route, thereby taking riders past even more animals.

The Jolly Barn
Back in the main part of the Park, I entered the Jolly Barn. There I headed straight towards the sign showing drawings of farm animals, with the question "Can you draw the animals?" Visitors are allowed to draw the animals on the large chalk board beneath that sign. Having drawn a pig in 2014 and a sheep in 2015, I tried drawing the rabbit this time, and my attempt was quite impressive. I named my drawing Rupert the Rabbit. I took a photo of my finished drawing and asked someone to photograph me pointing to it. Shortly afterwards Mark and Margo Lewis appeared, and they were impressed by my rabbit drawing. This was my first sighting of other RCCGB members booked on the trip.

Morning Coffee
At this point I felt like a coffee, so I went to nearby Cwtch Café, where I had a much-needed cappuccino.

The Zoo
Without further ado I headed for the zoo. Unlike previous years, this time I began with the Bactrian camels (which have two humps each). Next I walked up the path in the corner of the zoo where it says "More animals this way". Along this path there is information about deserts around the world, and the next animal I saw was African spurred tortoise. Further on I saw the entrance to the new-for-2016 Kifaru Reserve rhino enclosure. This is an extension to the park, which wasn't there during the Club's August 2015 visit. I walked all the way around the circular path surrounding the rhino enclosure. There is also a building, with a sunken area for the rhino to go inside. In the part of the building open to visitors, there is a mural showing the sizes of various species of rhino. Having left the rhino enclosure, other animals I spotted included Red River Hog, Cusimanse and Reindeer. Back in the main part of the zoo, I met Mark and Margo Lewis again, followed by Big Stevie B, Kelly Cameron and various other RCCGB members. I stopped and spoke to them for a few minutes.

Lunch
At this point I felt like a light snack. I went to nearby Carousel Café, where I had filled deli bread and a cup of coffee. That's all I wanted after my big breakfast earlier.

The Zoo (continued)
After lunch I returned the zoo to see the rest of the animals, starting with the giraffe enclosure in the Motobo Hills (African Reserve) section. Next I saw the Penguin Coast area, including the underwater view of the penguins. Afterwards I saw the Pride of Pembrokeshire lion enclosure, which first opened in 2014. This is surrounded by a high fence, with another secondary fence outside it. I went inside the building in which information about the lion enclosure is displayed. Also inside that building is a large window through which visitors can see and photograph the lions without being obscured by the fence wire. Having left the building I walked around the outside of the lion enclosure and saw another outdoor window through which visitors have an unobstructed view of the lions. One of the last parts of the zoo I saw was the African Aviary, home to African crowned crane, African speckled pigeon and various other birds.

Ice Cream Time
Having left the zoo for the final time, I saw an ice cream kiosk, so took the opportunity to have a whippy ice cream. The sun was now out again, and it remained sunny there rest of the afternoon.

Afternoon Coffee
Very soon after finishing my ice cream, I wandered towards Cwtch Café. When I got there I bought myself an Americano. Since a few other RCCGB members were sitting at one of the outdoor tables, I sat with them whist drinking my coffee.

Folly Interactive
Late afternoon I went into Folly Interactive, home to various parrots. A dolphin and fish mural is also on display there, I had my picture taken beside it. Whilst inside Folly Interactive, I met Nev and Christine for the first time this trip and also Mark and Margo Lewis again.

The Jolly Barn
Afterwards I briefly went into The Jolly Barn, which is home to various farm animals. Whilst in there I saw various ponies and a mural comparing the heights of various horses and ponies in hands. Unsurprisingly my rabbit, which I had drawn during the morning, was no longer on the chalk board.

Carousel Woods
A wooden indoor play structure, which adults are allowed to play on. It includes the following facilities:
4-lane Astra slide
Four tube slides
Log ramps and bridges
Multi-level towers; inter-floor access is by log ramps and/or climbing / dropping through holes

I played in Carousel Woods for nearly an hour; from shortly after 16:30 until just before closing time of 17:30. I began by sliding all four Astra slide lanes once each. Thereafter I covered all parts of the play area including the bridges, going up and down through the holes between levels in the towers, sliding all the tube slides at least twice each and all four Astra slide lanes twice more apiece.

The tallest tower situated near the front of the play area has three wooden "proper" upper floors (first, second, third) above the ground floor. Each of the said floors has a hole in it, which one can pass through upwards or downwards. In addition a 2-stage log ramp at the edge of the tower links the first floor to the second floor, and another 2-stage log ramp at the edge of the tower links the second floor to the third floor. I went up the ramps at least twice, up through the holes once and down through the holes once. Going downwards through the holes, I went through the hole in the third floor, through the holes in two intermediate levels, through the second floor, through two more intermediate levels, through the first floor and through more intermediate levels to the ground floor.

Summary of my sliding in order
Start of session: Astra slide all 4 lanes left to right (as seen from the top) once each
Tube slide near front 2
Spiral tube slide at back 2
Dark green tube slide from top of front tower 2
Straight yellow tube slide near back 2
Astra slide all 4 lanes left to right (as seen from the top) once each
Spiral tube slide at back 2
To round off my session: Astra slide all 4 lanes left to right (as seen from the top) once each

Altogether a fun way to spend the final hour of normal opening time. My only problem was where to put my rucksack and trainers. Just before I began playing I found an alcove near the structure to leave them, and checked them from time to time during my hour on Carousel Woods. There really ought to be lockers nearby for you to put luggage in.

Exclusive Fair Session
Folly Farm closed to the public at 17:30. However for us it was the beginning of the best part of the day, our Exclusive Fair Session (EFS). Just before the EFS began, I put on my RCCGB Fun Night T-shirt (which I originally had printed back in March for the Friday Fun Night of the Blackpool Bash 2016) and fluorescent pink sports shorts. Having changed, I found a few other RCCGB members waiting by the Wurlitzer Organ, but Nev and several others weren't there. Confusion arose as to where everyone else was. Eventually I found Nev and several others outside the main entrance to the Vintage Funfair. Everyone then headed towards the 1950s Caterpillar Ride and 1937 Coronation Speedway. Along the way several others noticed my black RCCGB Fun Night T-shirt (with fluorescent pink lettering) and fluorescent pink shorts, however some felt what I was wearing would be more appropriate for the dark ERS on Megafobia Saturday evening.

Around 17:45 the Club was, at last, ready to begin the evening EFS. The Club split into two groups, A and B. The plan was to run two rides simultaneously (rides 1 and 2 for explanation purposes), with group A on ride 1 and group B on ride 2, then swap over to have group B on ride 1 and group A on ride 2. We began by taking turns to ride the 1950s Caterpillar Ride and 1937 Coronation Speedway.

1950s Caterpillar Ride
This goes round and round, and due to undulations in the track, it also gives up and down motion. Part way through the ride, the canopy is put over the riders, so the ride resembles a caterpillar racing around the track. Near the end the canopy is removed. I sat in seat 8. A fun start to the EFS.

1937 Coronation Speedway
Also called Royal Coronation Speedway, this has horses, cars and motorbikes fixed to a circular wooden undulating track. I sat on bike RDL7. The ride went round and round, up and down.

For the next two rides, the groups took turns to ride the Jets and Rock n' Roll Waltzer.

Jets
Mini jet planes at the ends of arms which radiate from a central hub. The operator said I would have to move the lever one way to go up and the other way to go down. When the ride started the planes all went around in a circle. Shortly afterwards I was able to lift my plane with the lever. The extent to which I could raise my plane with the lever varied during the course of the ride; after a while I was able to raise it to the full height. Finally all planes returned to their stationary height before the ride slowed and stopped.

Rock n' Roll Waltzer
Self-explanatory, this is a typical fairground waltzer. Each waltzer has a rock star's face and signature on the back. I rode in waltzer number 3, bearing Tom Jones on the back.

Ghost Train
This has several individual ride cars, which resemble railway engines, running on a track. The group arrangement did not apply here. Instead members entered and left this ride one by one as trains became available. The train I travelled in followed the track through a spooky enclosure. After one lap I left the train.

1938 Dodgem Track
Another common funfair ride, the dodgems, aka bumper cars. The group arrangement did not apply here. Instead the cars were filled on a first-come first-served basis. I managed to be accommodated on the first run. Although I'm not too keen on dodgems at the best of times, I was determined to give it a go. I tried my best at driving my car around the track, but at certain times got into difficulty steering it.

At the end of that run, everyone who had just ridden the dodgems left the ride. A second run was held for those like me who missed out first time around. Those like me who had already ridden the dodgems were told to proceed to the next ride, 1936 Lakin Swirl.

1936 Lakin Swirl
Also called the Super Swirl or Lakin Skid, this has waltzer style ride cars with small wheels beneath them. Each car is attached by a pivot to a triangle protruding from the spinning central unit. That results in a rather unusual ride experience; a car rotates as far as it can go in one direction before suddenly being thrown sharply back in the opposite direction. I sat in car 4 with Mark Lewis.

Evening Meal
It was now time for dinner at the Funfair Restaurant. When booking we were asked to specify whether we wanted fish and chips, sausage and chips or pasta Bolognese. That didn't necessarily mean everyone stuck with their original choices whilst being served. I had what I'd originally specified: fish and chips. A fizzy drink was also included, I chose Sprite. At the end of the meal Nev outlined forthcoming trips.

Around 19:15 everyone returned to riding. Normally I wouldn't go on rides immediately after eating, but this time I wanted to return to riding anyway. Thankfully even the spinning rides at Folly Farm are reasonably suitable for riding immediately after eating, unlike rides such as Disko, swinging pirate ship or Freak Out type rides. Those who had ridden 1936 Lakin Swirl just before dinner rode Chair-o-Plane next, whereas the rest rode 1936 Lakin Swirl next.

Chair-o-Plane
My first ride after dinner. This is basically a carousel with chairs hanging from chains. As the ride spins the chairs are forced outwards on an angle. A gentle, pleasurable ride, that's all I really need to say about this. When the ride ended it took several revolutions to slow down and stop.

1936 Lakin Swirl
As I left Chair-o-Plane, I was directed to the 1936 Lakin Swirl. I was confused as I had already ridden it before dinner, but anyway, I got on. This time I sat in car 1 with James.

Folly Farm's Famous Gallopers
Traditional galloping horses, no further explanation needed. The group arrangement did not apply here as, to the best of my knowledge, everyone was accommodated simultaneously. I sat on the horse named John.

1950s Cyclone Twist
Everyone should be familiar with this ride. This 1950s model obviously looks a bit primitive compared to the more modern ones you tend to see these days (which most of us are likely to have ridden somewhere, generally called Twister nowadays). The group arrangement did not apply here, but most members including me got on the first run. I sat with Ryan during the first run. Being as I'd been on this sort of thing plenty of times before elsewhere, I knew what to expect. Just as I expected, this 1950s model gave a ride experience more or less the same as more modern models. Great fun, I still think the Cyclone is one of my favourite non-coaster rides.

Afterwards a second run was held primarily for those who had missed out first time around. The remaining seats were filled with members who had already ridden this first time, on a first-come first-served basis. I was lucky enough to get back on for the second run, this time I sat in seat number 4 with Planenut.

Brooklyn Cakewalk
Just like the RCCGB visits to Folly Farm in 2013, 2014 and 2015, the final ride of the evening was the Brooklyn Cakewalk. Finishing the day with this ride seems to have become a tradition now. Members had to be admitted to it one by one with a short gap between each. I was among the first few to approach it and thus get on it. During my first go I successfully walked the whole circuit without touching the rails. There was a strange sensation whilst walking along the moving platform. Perhaps the hardest part was stepping from the first moving platform to the stationary landing at the far end and on to the second moving platform to return to entrance / exit end. Just as riders entered the ride one by one, they left it one by one.

By the time I had completed my first go, most other members were queuing for Brooklyn Cakewalk, so I joined the back of the queue and had a second go. After that the queue was shorter, and I felt like another go, so I queued again for a third go. Much to my surprise, I ended up having a total of six goes on Brooklyn Cakewalk, all without holding the rails. Once I had completed my sixth go the ride was closed, thereby marking the end of the EFS.

Rest of Friday
When the EFS ended at 20:05, the day was over and we all had to return to the car park. The sky was overcast again when everyone left the funfair building, but it was still dry. Since I was staying in Begelly, I didn't bother asking to get a lift there. Instead, at 20:13 I began walking back to Begelly. Just a short way beyond Folly Farm, Alan Hunt spotted me and gave me a lift to Manian Lodge. I relaxed in my room the rest of the evening.

Highlights
Land train ride shortly after I arrived in the morning.
Playing on Carousel Woods indoor play structure late afternoon.
Evening Exclusive Fair Session on the Vintage Funfair rides.
Evening meal in the Funfair Restaurant.
Meeting Nev, Mark and Margo Lewis, Planenut, Wendy Adams Evans and other members again.

Lowlights
Having to leave my rucksack and trainers in an alcove near Carousel Woods whilst playing on the structure due to lack of lockers.
Confusion as to where everyone was at the start of the EFS.

Summing Up
Altogether a worthwhile appetiser to Mega-GLOW-Mania at Oakwood. It's always great seeing new attractions at Folly Farm; this time I liked visiting the new-for-2016 Kifaru Reserve rhino enclosure for the first time. I particularly enjoyed playing on Carousel Woods indoor play structure for nearly an hour late afternoon. Best of all was the EFS after 17:30: a few vintage rides, a meal, and more vintage rides ending with the Brooklyn Cakewalk. Wearing my self-designed black RCCGB Fun Night T-shirt and fluorescent pink shorts just for that part of the day added to the fun of the EFS. Furthermore it was great meeting Nev, Mark and Margo Lewis, Planenut, Wendy Adams Evans and other members again. Basically the visit to Folly Farm can be summed up as a leisurely day around the farm, zoo and other attractions, culminating in a spin on the vintage rides early evening, as a warm-up to Oakwood the day after. It's a pity the sky was overcast all morning and much of the afternoon. At least it was sunny for a couple of hours late afternoon, and it was dry all day. Many thanks to Andy Hine for arranging this trip, including EFS, to Folly Farm; I hope it continues as part of Mega-GLOW-Mania next year and beyond. Thanks also to the ride staff for operating the rides and caterers for providing the meal after closing time, and to Alan Hunt for giving me a lift back to my hotel in the evening.

Nemesis Nick at Brean Leisure Park 23 July 2016 Midi Report

Date: Saturday 23 July 2016
Venue: Brean Theme Park
Who Went: Just me

N.B. Any use of "today" or "Saturday" in this report means Saturday 23 July 2016.

Rationale for Trip
Having attended the RCCGB Summer Bash at Brean Leisure Park early September 2011, and gone there alone in September 2012, June 2013, June 2014 and July 2015, I was equally determined to go there again this year. I originally favoured going one Saturday in June, but for various reasons it took me until Saturday 23 July to go there.

Getting to Brean Leisure Park
I awoke at 5:40 to get ready in time to catch the 7:35 bus from Bath Bus Station to Bristol Bus Station, followed by the 8:45 bus to Weston-super-Mare, and finally the 10:13 bus to Brean.

Brean Leisure Park

Morning Coffee
Having eventually reached Brean at 10:48 I went to Subway where I had a regular coffee and cookie.

Morning Riding
After leaving Subway, I walked straight to Brean Theme Park and bought myself a wristband. Just like in 2015, wristbands purchased in the morning were valid until ride closing time, which today was after 21:00. Furthermore a free firework display was due to take place after dark today. Unfortunately I couldn't have stayed until 21:00 as the last bus back to Weston was at 19:39.

Once fitted with my wristband I was eager to start riding. When I passed Crazy Loop, a sign stated it was closed for maintenance. Thankfully the indoor dark coaster Astro Storm was already running, so I began the day by having six goes on Astro Storm. Although a fun dark roller coaster, I question the need for the multi-coloured and flashing lights on the lift hill. I also question the need for the air currents as there is no air in Space. Afterwards I enjoyed three goes on the mouse coaster Magic Mouse followed by three goes on Caterpillar Coaster.

So far I had ridden three of the four coasters. I considered going on Crazy Loop next, but it was still closed for maintenance. Thankfully there were plenty of non-coaster rides for me to ride. The rest of the morning I rode Wipeout, Sizzler (generally better known among ride enthusiasts as Twister or Cyclone) and Sky Diver drop tower once each.

Lunchtime and After
Since I was now feeling peckish, I left Brean Theme Park at 12:55 to get some lunch at nearby Subway. I chose a 6 inch turkey and ham Sub and Sprite. After lunch I walked around part of the beach for a few minutes before returning to riding.

Afternoon Riding
At 14:11 I returned to Brean Theme Park. I was going to start with the Bumpy Slide, until I spotted a sign "No adults on Bumpy Slide". The attendant told me a 1.4 metre maximum height limit was introduced on the Bumpy Slide at the start of the 2016 season. My first ride after lunch was Xtreme, which is similar to Hydro Max at Pleasure Island Cleethorpes. Although a fun ride, once was enough for me; in fact I felt glad that go didn't last any longer. Next I had one go on the Miami style ride X Factory, followed by one go on Crazy Boats.

After a much-needed white coffee at The Tavern, the looping coaster Crazy Loop was open at last, so I decided to ride it. Although not my favourite looping coaster, and very much a bone-shaker, I enjoyed two goes. Next I had one go on Wave Swinger. After that I felt like a few more goes on Astro Storm; I ended up having six goes. Just before my second go, I put on my pink "Coaster Crazy Kid on Tour!" hi-vis waistcoat, and kept it on for my remaining goes. The ultra violet lighting towards the end of the ride created a somewhat weird reflection off it. My final coaster ride of the day was one more go on Crazy Loop; I kept my hi-vis waistcoat on for that go and removed it immediately afterwards.

So far I hadn't been on Wild Water log flume, partly due to it not running a couple of times during the afternoon. Now that it was working again, I enjoyed two goes on it. This log flume has two rises and two falls. Even though it was a sunny afternoon, I put on my cagoule so as not to get wet. I rounded off my day at Brean by having two goes on Sizzler followed by one go on Sky Diver drop tower. At 18:00 I left the funfair for the last time, and returned to the bus stop.

Saturday Evening

Bus to Weston-super-Mare
Back at the bus stop I caught the 18:09 bus to Weston-super-Mare. I left the bus at Beach Road bus stop and walked northwards along the seafront in the direction of Grand Pier.

Takeaway
By the time I was close to Grand Pier, I felt ready for a meal. I bought takeaway cod and large chips from Winston's Fish Bar and ate them in the paved area across the road from the beach. Afterwards I had a whippy ice cream. Fish and chips and an ice cream are two must-haves when you're at the seaside.

Journey Home
Having finished my ice cream I caught the 19:25 bus from Marine Parade on the promenade to Bristol city centre, followed by the 21:01 bus to Bath Bus Station. I finally reached Bath Bus Station at 21:58, and home a few minutes later.

Highlights
Adding Crazy Boats to my ride count.
Re-riding all four coasters and many other rides that I first rode September 2011.
Having six goes straight off on Astro Storm during the morning and another six goes straight off on it late afternoon.
High total ride count overall.

Lowlights
Crazy Loop not running in the morning (but thankfully it opened and I was able to ride it mid-afternoon).
Wild Water log flume not running certain times of the afternoon (but least I managed to go on it twice before I left).
Feeling tired by late afternoon.

Summing Up
Altogether a fun day out. This was my sixth visit to Brean to-date and my fifth solo visit there. Throughout the day most rides were walk-on, and thus I achieved a high ride count, even allowing for frequent rest breaks. It was great riding all four coasters (Astro Storm, Magic Mouse, Caterpillar Coaster, Crazy Loop) and other rides again. Just one point about the four coasters, they're all steel. Come on Brean, get some wood! The weather was good too; dry all day, and sunny most of the time I was at Brean.

When I passed Crazy Loop, I saw a sign stating it was closed for maintenance. Thankfully Astro Storm was already running, so I began the day on Astro Storm.

Astro Storm
This Zierer Four Man Bob is the former Space Invader 2 from Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Late July 2011 it began operating at Brean Theme Park as Astro Storm. The 3-seater train, which resembles a space ship, goes through the doors, turns right and climbs the lift hill. The lift hill lighting has been changed since last year. Whereas there used to be lights which changed between red and green, there are now pink / purple lights as well as flashing lights. Personally I think they're superfluous really. At the top there's a thrusting sound and the train winds its way along the course of the track. Along the way you pass tiny lights, which presumably resemble stars. Strong air currents add to the fun, though I question their significance considering there is no air in Space! Finally there are more bizarre lighting effects in the home straight before the train stops at the exit platform. I enjoyed six goes on this: Si7 front, Si3 front, Si7 centre, Si5 front, Si7 back, Si7 front.

Magic Mouse
Now for the mouse coaster Magic Mouse. This Reverchon Spinning Coaster has been operating at Brean since 2007. The ride car leaves the station, climbs the lift hill and works its way along a series of straight bits and U-bends. I enjoyed three goes: car 6, car 2, car 2.

Caterpillar Coaster
This D.P.V. Rides Minicoaster Apple has been operating at Brean since 2001. Unlike the other three coasters, one ride consists of two laps of the track. Not a particularly exciting coaster but to me riding this was as important as the other bigger coasters. I had three goes: third from back row, back row, third row.

So far I had ridden three of the four coasters. I considered going on Crazy Loop next, but since it was still closed for maintenance, I went on a few non-coaster rides next.

Wipeout
A Freak-Out / Afterburner type ride which swings and spins. Each set of four seats faces inwards. The ride was great fun, but once again it seemed longer than average. Although I enjoyed this ride, by the time it finished I felt I'd been on there long enough. Having left Wipeout I admitted to someone else that there's no way on Earth I could have two goes straight off on this type of ride. In fact my one go now was my only go on Wipeout all day.

Sizzler
Just about everyone in the RCCGB must have been on this sort of ride at least once somewhere; you may have seen it called Twister or perhaps Cyclone. For some strange reason Brean Theme Park call theirs Sizzler, I'm not sure why. Another fun ride, and still one of my favourite non-coaster rides. For now I just had one go.

Sky Diver
A drop tower. The ring of outward facing seats rose and fell several times. A fun ride, better than Trauma Tower at Woodlands or Jumping Bean at Paultons, but tame compared to Ice Blast at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. My one go now, in seat 8, was my final ride before lunch.

Lunch at Subway
Since I was now feeling peckish, I left Brean Theme Park at 12:55 to get some lunch at nearby Subway. When I got there I had to wait a few minutes to be served. When it was my turn I chose a 6 inch turkey and ham Sub and Sprite (as a £3 Meal Deal).

After-Lunch Walk
Knowing it would be unwise to return to riding immediately after lunch, I went for a short walk before returning to riding. I walked along the path opposite Brean Leisure Park to the beach. When I got there, I walked around part of it for a few minutes and had a few pictures taken of me there. One can see Brean Down and Steepholm from the beach. Eventually I walked back to Brean Leisure Park.

Afternoon Riding
At 14:11 I returned to Brean Theme Park. I was going to start with the Bumpy Slide, and waited a moment by its entrance, only to spot a sign "No adults on Bumpy Slide". Initially I was mystified, as I was able to go on it each of my last five visits to Brean, so I enquired. The attendant said this was a new rule which was introduced at the start of the 2016 season, there's now a 1.4 metre maximum height limit on the Bumpy Slide, but he didn't know why this rule had been introduced.

Xtreme
My first ride after lunch was Xtreme, which is similar to Hydro Max at Pleasure Island Cleethorpes. This has two pairs of seats back to back at one end of the boom, with another identical set at the other end. I sat at one end, and the ride set off. As the ride picked up speed, it felt like riding a big wheel, but much better. The motion gave the sensation of flying through the air, up, backwards over the top and down again. Sometimes the set unit flipped over at the top; when that happened it seemed strange momentarily seeing the sky below me. When the ride ended I was stuck at the top, whilst the attendant changed riders at the other end. Finally the boom turned half a revolution so I could leave and more riders could get on at the end where I was. A fun ride, but I felt glad one go didn't last any longer. Once was enough for me for now, and I ended up not returning to this later.

X Factory
This KMG ride looks and works like a Miami. Its row of seats beneath two vertical arms goes up, sideways and down. The ride also has water jets, but they aren't always used; they weren't used on this particular go. Going up, across and down was extremely exciting; at one point the seat row tilted forwards slightly whilst high up. My one go now ended up being my only go on this all day.

At this point I noticed the Wild Water log flume was closed for maintenance. Suddenly I regretted not riding it earlier when it was open, and hoped it would reopen later. For now I went on the Crazy Boats.

Crazy Boats
These are electric bumper boats similar to the Aqua Blasters at Devon's Crealy. Each boat has two buttons. One is the power button which you must press and hold in to make the boat go, and release to stop. The other is the squirt button, which you press to squirt other users. When I joined the queue (which was quite short) another group was already on the lake. As soon as they had finished I was one of the next batch of riders to get on the lake. The attendant told me which boat to get into. When everyone was told to go, everyone including me was able to steer their boat around the lake wherever there was space. At one point I was squirted by another rider. I tried squirting back, without success. Thereafter I tried staying away from the others as I didn't want to get too wet as a result of squirting. After a few minutes the attendant called everyone in simultaneously, I ended up being the last person to dock. My one go now was my only go on these boats all day. Having left the ride my T-shirt was a bit damp; I regretted not putting my cagoule on before getting into a boat.

Afternoon Coffee
At this point I felt like having a coffee somewhere. I ended up going to The Tavern where I enjoyed a standard white coffee.

Crazy Loop
At last the looping coaster Crazy Loop was open, so I decided to ride this next. This Pinfari preZyklon TL59 originally operated as Crazy Loop at Flamingo Land (Malton) and Pleasure Island Cleethorpes. From 2004 to 2014 it operated at Brean under the name Shockwave. Since 2015, Brean Theme Park has called this Crazy Loop, presumably a restoration of its original Flamingo Land name. The lift hill, first drop, vertical loop and other elements made for a fun ride, albeit a bit rough. I would now describe this ride as a bone-shaker. Although not my favourite looping coaster, I nonetheless enjoyed two goes.

Wave Swinger
Having meandered around the Park a bit, I decided to ride Wave Swinger next. Just like any other Wave Swinger, the central unit rose up and tilted as it spun around. Another fun ride, but once was enough for me for now. In fact, this was my only go on Wave Swinger all day.

Astro Storm
Now for a few more goes on the indoor dark coaster Astro Storm. I ended up having six goes as follows: Si5 back, Si7 front, Si5 centre, Si5 front, Si3 front, Si3 back. Just before my second go, I put on my pink "Coaster Crazy Kid on Tour!" hi-vis waistcoat, and kept it on for my remaining goes. The ultra violet lighting towards the end of the ride created a somewhat weird reflection off it.

Crazy Loop
Next I queued for another go on Crazy Loop. Whilst queuing I felt rather tired and yawned quite loudly; I admitted to someone else in the queue that I'd been up since 5:40 in the morning. When it was my turn I got on to the train and enjoyed what ended up being my final go of the day on Crazy Loop. In fact, this ended up being my final roller coaster ride of the day. At the end of this go I removed my hi-vis waistcoat.

Wild Water
Having seen Wild Water log flume not running a couple of times during the afternoon, it was now working again, so I felt I'd better go on it now. Although it was a sunny afternoon, I put on my cagoule so as not to get wet. The waiting time for this was quite short. When it was my turn I got into the back of a log and set off. The layout of this is somewhat similar to Thunder Falls Log Flume at Cornwall's Crealy (now Camel Creek Adventure Park); the log went up the first lift hill, and down creating a splash. After that it went up the second (taller) lift hill, and down creating an even bigger splash. Finally the log returned to the station. Altogether a fun ride. Afterwards I had a second go, this time I sat in the front of the log. I took my cagoule off after my second go.

Sizzler
Although I was now quite tired, I nonetheless decided to have one go on Sizzler. At the end of this go I returned to the entrance and got straight on to the next run for a second go. At the end of the ride I left Sizzler.

Sky Diver
After that, I still had time for one more ride, that being on the drop tower Sky Diver. This time I sat in seat 12. This ended up being my last ride of the day.

I went to Winston's Fish Bar, where I bought takeaway cod and large chips, and sat in the paved area across the road from the beach to eat them. Afterwards I had a whippy ice cream from an ice cream parlour; I ate my ice cream whilst walking southwards along the promenade. Fish and chips and an ice cream are two must-haves when you're at the seaside.

Journey Home
As I walked along eating my ice cream, a double decker bus was already standing at Marine Parade (stop MM) on the promenade ready to form the 19:25 service to Bristol. Very shortly after finishing my ice cream, I got on that bus. Having reached Bristol city centre I caught the 21:01 bus to Bath Bus Station.

RCCGB Summer Bash 2016 Midi Report

Date: Saturday 9 July 2016
Venue: Paultons Park
Who Went: Me and a large number of other RCCGB members, including Andy and Christine Hine, Doug and Charlie Turner, Heather Hall, Lucy Cosnett, Mark Blundell, Matt Walker, Smiler, Stevie B, Wendy Evans.

DISCLAIMER: The above is NOT intended to be an exhaustive list of everyone who attended. It's a small sample of attendees; mainly those I spoke to and/or rode with at Paultons Park. I sincerely apologise to anyone I've not listed.

N.B. Any use of "today" or "Saturday" in this report means Saturday 9 July 2016.

Rationale for Trip
A one-day mini trip from the RCCGB. Over the years the Summer Bash has usually been held in June or July at a park which has just opened a new coaster or other ride. This year the Summer Bash was held at Paultons Park near Romsey, largely due to two new coasters Velociraptor and Flight of the Pterosaur.

Getting to Paultons
After an exceptionally early awakening I caught the 06:07 train from Bath Spa to Salisbury. Once there I just had time to buy myself a takeaway coffee from McDonalds in the city centre before catching the 07:40 Southampton bus. At 08:27 I left the bus at the Mortimer Arms and began walking up the long driveway to Paultons. Unexpectedly another member saw me and gave me a lift up the driveway to the main gate.

Welcome to Paultons
Several other members were already at the main gate when I got there, and others gradually arrived afterwards. Whilst waiting to go into the Park, I met and spoke to several members including Doug and Charlie, Matt Walker, Mark Blundell, Heather Hall, Lucy Cosnett and Wendy Evans. The Club entered the Park at 09:30. Just inside the porch, a welcome message was on the screens above the inner doors. Members posed for a group photo in front of the screens.

Morning ERS
Without further ado, the Club proceeded to the new Lost Kingdom area for a half-hour ERS on the two new coasters Velociraptor and Flight of the Pterosaur. I began by riding the boomerang coaster Velociraptor once in the front row followed by once in the back row. A fun ride, similar to Ben 10 - Ultimate Mission at Drayton Manor Park, but tame compared to the much larger Boomerang at Pleasure Island Cleethorpes which I rode in summer 2010. The rest of the ERS I enjoyed three goes on the suspended coaster Flight of the Pterosaur; the third of which I sat next to Brian. Altogether I thought this was a more exciting ride than Velociraptor.

Summary of my rides this ERS: Velociraptor 2, Flight of the Pterosaur 3. Did anyone beat me on that?

Free Time
The ERS ended when Paultons opened to the public at 10:00. At this point members were able to spread around the entire park and take over the rides for the rest of the day. There were no further organised activities just for the Club later in the day. For now I stayed in the Lost Kingdom.

My first ride during normal opening time was one more go on Flight of the Pterosaur. This time I sat with Mark Blundell in the second-from-back row. Next I enjoyed two goes on the Park's smallest coaster Dino Chase (formerly Flying Frog from 2003 to 2015); I sat next to Smiler on my first go, and alone in the back row on my second go. To me riding Dino Chase under its new theme seemed no different to riding it as Flying Frog on all my previous visits. Afterwards I had one go on Boulder Dash.

After a much-needed coffee at Base Camp, during which I spoke to Christine for a few minutes, I had one go on the magic carpet ride Temple Heights. Next I left Lost Kingdom to ride Sky Swinger and Dragon Ride once each. Suddenly I met Nev near the go-karts. He asked me if I'd ridden Edge yet; when I said I hadn't yet, he advised me to ride Edge next as he reckoned it was on top setting. Without further ado I enjoyed one go on Edge. After that I was going to go on the tall drop tower Magma, and joined its queue. Shortly afterwards some people walked back towards the entrance. Someone reckoned there was a problem with the ride. Rather than wait for an official announcement I exited the queue and looked for some lunch.

I ended up going to the Wild Forest Restaurant for lunch, where I enjoyed a delicious jacket potato with beef chilli and a 7-up to drink. After lunch I explored John and Anne's Garden, the Main Garden and various other areas. I got back to Lost Kingdom in time for the 14:00 dinosaur appearance, and queued to have my picture taken with the dinosaur.

My first ride after lunch was the family coaster Cat-O-Pillar (formerly Stinger from 2000 to 2014). I sat in the front row to have an unobstructed view of the track ahead of me. One go consists of two circuits of the track. A fun ride, but I noticed no difference since it was called Stinger. Due to the long queue I limited myself to one go for now. Next I enjoyed riding Tea Cup Ride and Jumping Bean once each. After a much-needed takeaway whippy ice cream from Station Kiosk, I had one go on the Rio Grande Train which runs around the outside of Peppa Pig Land.

Having left the train I entered Peppa Pig Land. There I had one go on Grandpa Pig's Boat Trip. Shortly afterwards Peppa and George appeared so visitors could be photographed with them. I queued for about 15 minutes to have my picture taken with Peppa and George. After that I had one go on Peppa's Big Balloon Ride. I must admit, I did wonder if my time queuing to have my picture taken with Peppa and George, and then for Peppa's Big Balloon Ride would have been better spent waiting for / riding some other ride elsewhere in the Park.

During my remaining time in Paultons I rode Viking Boats, Cat-O-Pillar, Raging River Ride Log Flume and Sky Swinger once each. Although the Park was due to close at 17:30, I left just after 17:20 in order to give myself adequate time to walk to the bus stop.

Rest of Saturday
With a mixture of running and brisk walking, I proceeded back towards the main road. I was back at the Mortimer Arms bus stop with plenty of time to spare for the 17:41 bus to Salisbury. Having left the bus outside Debenhams at 18:27, I went to nearby Pizza Hut, where I enjoyed a delicious BBQ Meat Feast pizza, and an accompanying fill-it-myself salad bowl. For dessert I chose had an Ice Cream Factory ice cream. Afterwards I walked back to the railway station, whereupon I caught the 20:57 train to Bath Spa. I finally reached Bath Spa at 21:52, and home a few minutes later.

Summing Up
Altogether another excellent Club trip. Although only a one-day trip, it was still great fun. A nice and straightforward little trip too, just a half hour ERS followed by free time the rest of the day. It was great for me to add Velociraptor and Flight of the Pterosaur to my coaster count, and to re-ride Flying Frog and Stinger under their new guises. Also it was a pleasure to meet other members including Andy Hine, Matt Walker, Mark Blundell, Wendy Evans, Lucy Cosnett, Doug and Charlie and others again. It's a pity I wasn't able to ride Cobra, as it would have been a delight to have ridden all five coasters in a day, but you can't win them all I suppose. Just one point about the five coasters, they're all steel. Come on Paultons, get some wood! Best of all, the weather was favourable; dry all day with sunny spells. Many thanks to Nev for organising this trip, and to the ride attendants for operating Flight of the Pterosaur and Velociraptor before opening.

RCCGB Summer Bash 2016

Rationale for Trip
A one-day mini trip from the RCCGB. Until 2011 the Summer Bash was an annual event each June or July (although in 2011 it took place early September), and normally at a park which had just opened a new coaster or other ride. For various reasons there was no Summer Bash in 2012, 2013 or 2014. In 2015 a Summer Bash was anticipated to take place at Dreamland Margate on Saturday 4 July 2015, to ride the restored wooden coaster, but for some reason a substitute meet-up was held at Brighton Pier that day instead. Whether or not that meet-up at Brighton Pier was still officially called Summer Bash 2015, or just "Meet at the Pier" or no official name at all is unclear. Either way there was no doubt that this year the Summer Bash was officially back as the Summer Bash 2016, and it was held at Paultons Park near Romsey, largely due to two new coasters Velociraptor and Flight of the Pterosaur.

Getting to Paultons
For me an exceptionally early awakening was necessary for me to get myself ready in time to catch the 06:07 train from Bath Spa to Salisbury. Having got there just over an hour later, I walked to the city centre, where I just had time to buy myself a takeaway coffee from McDonalds before catching the 07:40 Southampton bus. At 08:27 I left the bus at the Mortimer Arms, crossed the main road and began walking up the long driveway to Paultons. Unexpectedly another member saw me and gave me a lift up the driveway to the main gate.

Welcome to Paultons
Several other members were already at the main gate when I got there. Doug and Charlie were the first members I spotted in the car park, so I spoke to them briefly. Other members gradually arrived after me. Whilst waiting to go in, I met and spoke to several members including Matt Walker, Mark Blundell, Heather Hall, Lucy Cosnett and Wendy Evans. I was originally led to believe the Club was going to enter the Park at 09:00, but for some reason, the Club entered the Park at 09:30. Before going in, everyone was informed that they would have to stay within the Lost Kingdom area until the public were admitted at 10:00.

Velociraptor
One of two new coasters in the new Lost Kingdom area of Paultons, this Vekoma Family Boomerang (Custom) has been operating since 17 May 2016. I had two goes on this as follows:
First go: I sat in the front row. The train was pulled backwards to the top of a hill, released and went downwards, through the station, around its course until it reached another hill at the other end. Much to my surprise, the train did not go all the way to the top of that hill; it only went part way up. Being as the train had now reached a dead end, it had to travel backwards the way it had come. On the return journey it overshot the station to go part way up the hill, and forwards again to terminate at the station.
Second go: I sat in the back row. By sitting in the back of the train, I went further up the launch hill (behind the station), but didn't go so far up the distant hill. Apart from that the ride experience seemed barely any different to the front row.

A fun ride, similar to Ben 10 - Ultimate Mission (which is a Vekoma Family Boomerang 185m) at Drayton Manor Park, but tame compared to the much larger Boomerang at Pleasure Island Cleethorpes which I rode in summer 2010.

Flight of the Pterosaur
The other of two new coasters in the new Lost Kingdom area of Paultons, this Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster 395m has been operating since 17 May 2016. According to the RCDB, it's one of four coasters of this model currently operating worldwide, but the only one in the UK. Being a suspended coaster, the train hangs below the track, however it cannot be compared with inverted coasters such as Nemesis (Alton Towers), Nemesis Inferno (Thorpe Park) or Infusion (Blackpool Pleasure Beach). During what remained of the ERS, I had time for three goes on Flight of the Pterosaur; the third of which I sat next to Brian.

Flight of the Pterosaur
My first ride during normal opening time was one more go on Flight of the Pterosaur. This time I sat with Mark Blundell in the second-from-back row. This ended up being my last go of the day on Flight of the Pterosaur.

Dino Chase
Formerly Flying Frog from 2003 to 2015, this Zierer Tivoli - Small (variant) was re-themed and renamed Dino Chase in 2016 when it became integrated into Lost Kingdom as other Lost Kingdom rides and attractions were installed around it. It is the Park's smallest coaster. One go consists of three laps. I ended up having two goes on this:
First go: as I approached the train Smiler was already in one of the seats. There was enough space in that row for me as well, so I sat next to him.
Second go: this time I rode alone in the back row.

As far as I'm concerned, riding Dino Chase under its new theme seemed no different to riding it as Flying Frog on all my previous visits. Although not a particularly thrilling coaster, it was worth riding again under its new name and theme.

Boulder Dash
Basically a variation of a waltzer, this Zamperla dinosaur-themed ride has egg and boulder shaped ride cars. When it was my turn to ride I sat in a boulder. Another fun ride, but I only had one go for now and, as it happened, didn't return to this later.

Coffee Break
At this point I went to Base Camp for a much-needed coffee. Whilst there I saw Nev, Christine and various other RCCGB members. I spoke to Christine for a few minutes.

Temple Heights
Formerly located in another part of the Park under the name Magic Carpet, this Zamperla magic carpet ride was relocated to Lost Kingdom, re-themed and renamed Temple Heights. It has two rows of seats on a platform which rises and falls. Another fun ride, but my one go on this now was my only go on this all day.

Sky Swinger
A Zierer Wave Swinger 40 which opened in 2008. This one has single and twin seats. The central unit rises and spins clockwise for a few minutes, during which the seats are forced outwards. Great fun, but once was enough for me for now.

Dragon Ride
Despite being circular, this has a distinct head (front end), seats along the length of the ride, and a tail (back end), but the tail doesn't quite touch the head. It starts in a clockwise direction, which due to the direction the seats face forwards. Very soon you go around the outside really quickly, and there's some up and down movement. Mid way through the ride stops and goes backwards, which feels odd. Another fun ride, but once was enough for me; no way could I have taken two goes straight off!

Having left Dragon Ride, I suddenly met Nev near the go-karts. He asked me if I'd ridden Edge yet; when I said I hadn't yet, he advised me to ride Edge next as he reckoned it was on top setting.

Edge
This Zamperla Disk-o-Coaster opened in 2009. Unlike Disko at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, this has a hump in the middle. You sit facing outwards at the edge of the disk, which spins as it travels towards the high end (station end), back near the hump, and towards the high end (station end). After a few goes, it finally crosses the hump to reach the other high end, back and forth a few times. Altogether this was really exciting, but once was enough for me; no way could I have taken two goes straight off.

I was going to go on the tall drop tower Magma next. Although the queue looked a bit long for my liking, I joined it anyway. Shortly afterwards some people walked away from the queue back towards the entrance. Someone reckoned there was a problem with the ride. Rather than hang on and wait for an official announcement about the situation, I exited the queue and went to look for some lunch.

Lunch
After looking at a few catering outlets around the Park, I ended up going to the Wild Forest Restaurant for lunch. There I had a jacket potato with beef chilli and a 7-up to drink.

Gardens
Knowing it would be unwise to return to riding too soon after eating, I went for a walk around John and Anne's Garden. I particularly liked the sculpture in the centre, as well as the assortment of flowers around that garden. Other gardens I explored included the Main Garden and the sunken garden.

Dinosaur Photo
I got back to Lost Kingdom in time for the 14:00 appearance of the dinosaur. Several visitors including me queued to be photographed with it. Hence I had to wait about ten minutes to have my picture taken with the dinosaur.

Cat-O-Pillar
Formerly Stinger from 2000 to 2014, this Zierer Tivoli – Medium family coaster, located in the Critter Creek area of the Park, was renamed Cat-O-Pillar in 2015. When I approached this the queuing time was longer than I would have liked; I had to wait a few runs to get on it. Nev joined the back of the queue shortly after me, and I briefly spoke to him when he got there. When it was my turn I sat in the front row to have an unobstructed view of the track ahead of me. One go consists of two circuits of the track. A fun ride, but I noticed no difference since it was called Stinger. Due to the queuing time I limited myself to just one go for now.

Tea Cup Ride
A typical tea cup ride, no further explanation needed. Although the cups spin themselves, one can turn the table clockwise or anticlockwise to spin the cup faster. I didn't bother turning the table; instead I just relaxed and let the cup spin with the normal flow of the ride. The way I rode it was great fun, excessive spin speed (faster than I can take) just spoils the fun. I only had one go on this.

Jumping Bean
Made by Moser Rides, this vertical drop ride has two seat units (one each side of the tower). It's a baby one compared to Ice Blast at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but still great fun. I enjoyed one go on this ride, seated on the side facing the path.

Having left Jumping Bean, I headed towards Peppa Pig Land. When I got to Station Kiosk, I treated myself to a whippy ice cream before my next ride.

Rio Grande Train
A train ride around the outside of Peppa Pig Land (N.B. this was here long before Peppa Pig Land was built). This can be seen as a rest ride, and a way to see some of the Park's scenery. I only had one go on this.

At this point I went into Peppa Pig Land with the possibility of trying out some of the rides there.

Grandpa Pig's Boat Trip
One of the rides in Peppa Pig Land, this features boats on spokes, which rise and fall slightly as they go around in a circle. Not a particularly thrilling ride, and I was surprised how short the ride time was (I thought it would be a little longer), but anyway it was a worthwhile addition to my ride count. I only had one go on this.

Peppa and George Appearance
At 16:00 Peppa and George appeared so visitors could be photographed with them. I joined the back of the queue, which was rather long. After a few minutes I was concerned how long it would be before it was my turn, and whether or not it was really worth waiting to have my picture taken with Peppa and George, bearing in mind the time I spent queuing could perhaps be better spent waiting for a ride I had not been on yet. Determined to have my picture taken, I remained in the queue. After queuing for about a quarter of an hour, it was my turn to have my picture taken with Peppa and George.

Peppa's Big Balloon Ride
A balloon ride in Peppa Pig Land, similar to Diego's Rainforest Rescue in Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. I had to wait a few runs to get on this, and during that time I asked myself if I was absolutely sure I really wanted to ride this, bearing in mind time spent queuing for this could perhaps better be spent waiting for / riding another ride I had a greater desire to go on somewhere else in the Park. Determined to go on Peppa's Big Balloon Ride, I remained in the queue until it was my turn to get into a basket. The balloons began travelling around the tower. Shortly afterwards the set of balloons rose to the tower top where they continued travelling around the tower high up. Eventually the balloon cluster descended to ground level and the ride completely stopped. Altogether this was a tame, but fun ride, and another addition to my ride count. I limited myself to just one go.

Once my go on Peppa's Big Balloon Ride had finished, I left Peppa Pig Land as there were other rides elsewhere in the Park, some of which I'd not been on yet, which I had a greater desire to ride than the other Peppa Pig Land rides.
Viking Boats
As I walked across the Park, I passed the Viking Boats, so I decided to go on them. I got there just in time to take one of the remaining few available seats as the next run was about to start. These boats go round and round in a circle. I only had one go on these.

Cat-O-Pillar
The queue for Cat-O-Pillar was now considerably shorter than when I rode it earlier in the afternoon, so I decided to ride Cat-O-Pillar next. This time I sat in the second row. Once again I limited myself to just one go as there were other rides at the other end of the Park I was still hoping to go on before having to leave.

Raging River Ride Log Flume
A log flume. You go up a lift, round a bend, down a drop, round a bend, up another lift to a higher level than the first, then down a big drop, and finally back to the docking point. The queuing time for this was quite short. Whilst waiting I put my cagoule on to prevent me getting wet. When it was my turn, I sat in log 1 and enjoyed the ride. I only had one go on this.

After that, I realistically had time for one more ride before leaving. From the top of the log flume I had already noticed no movement on Magma and Edge, hence I assumed they were both closed and I didn't bother approaching them to check

Sky Swinger
My final ride of the day was Sky Swinger, largely due to its close proximity to Raging River Ride Log Flume. As I approached Sky Swinger I managed to get straight on to one of the remaining empty seats just before the start of the next run. The ride experience was just the same as when I rode it late morning. Once again, one go was enough for me, no way could I have taken this twice straight off.

Returning to Salisbury
The Park was due to close at 17:30 that day, but I left just after 17:20 in order to give myself adequate time to walk to the bus stop. Back at the car park, I had a spot of bother finding the driveway. Fortunately I soon found it and, with a mixture of running and brisk walking, proceeded back towards the main road. At 17:33 I was back at the Mortimer Arms bus stop. Once there I had just a few minutes to wait for the 17:41 bus to Salisbury. The bus terminated in Blue Boar Row (outside Debenhams) at 18:27.

Evening Meal
Having left the bus I went straight to Pizza Hut in Blue Boar Row, which was just a few doors away. There I enjoyed a delicious BBQ Meat Feast pizza, and an accompanying fill-it-myself salad bowl. For dessert I chose had an Ice Cream Factory ice cream.

Journey Home
After leaving Pizza Hut I walked back to the railway station. Once there I caught the 20:57 train to Bath Spa.
