Nemesis Nick at Brean Leisure Park

Date: Saturday 1 September 2012
Venue: Brean Leisure Park Fun City
Who Went: Just me

Introduction
The first Saturday in September last year (Saturday 3 September 2011) the RCCGB held its Summer Bash at Brean Leisure Park Fun City, and I enjoyed attending that trip at the time. Now that a year had passed, I fancied going to Fun City again. This was partly to increase my counts of visits to Brean Leisure Park and its individual rides on Ride Count. Since no RCCGB trip to Fun City was planned for this year, I wanted to go there anyway, perhaps with one or two other members. As it happened, I ended up going there alone. Funnily enough, presumably due to my solo visit being the first Saturday in September again, I managed to make the itinerary almost a carbon copy of the Summer Bash 2011 from the moment I left Bath Bus Station first thing to when I got back there late evening, thereby creating a sense of déjà vu without the company of other Club members through the day.

Getting To Brean Leisure Park
I awoke at 5:45am to catch the 7:25 bus from Bath Bus Station to Bristol Bus Station, whereupon I caught the 8:22 bus to Weston-super-Mare. Once there I had a spot of bother finding the correct stop for the onward bus to Brean. After my memories of last year, I expected it to depart around 9:40am from High Street, but buses no longer go from there. I ran to the bus stop outside the front of the railway station, and thankfully I managed to get on the 9:43 bus to Brean there. I finally reached Brean Leisure Park at 10:21am, nearly 3 hours after leaving Bath!

Brean Leisure Park

Morning Coffee
There was still over half an hour to go before Fun City was due to open at 11am. Meanwhile I felt partial to a coffee having not had one since my early breakfast before setting off, so I looked for somewhere to get a coffee. Starbucks at Brean water park was open, so I had a medium Caffé Amercano there.

Fun City Morning Riding

Admission
By the time I'd finished my coffee and left Starbucks, Fun City was open to visitors. I entered Fun City just after 11:00am, and immediately bought myself a wristband. Once fitted with my wristband I wanted to start with Astro Storm, but it was out of action. The staff were hoping to get it running as soon as possible.

Shockwave
Thankfully the sit-down looping steel coaster Shockwave was running, so I began my day with Shockwave. This Pinfari preZyklon TL59 originally operated as Crazy Loop at Flamingo Land (Malton) and Pleasure Island Cleethorpes. Since 2004, it has been operating at Brean as Shockwave. The lift hill, first drop, vertical loop and other elements made for a fun ride, albeit a bit rough. It's certainly not one of my favourite looping coasters. For now I had just one go, which consisted of one lap of the track.

Caterpillar Coaster
This D.P.V. Rides Minicoaster Apple has been operating at Brean since 2001. Unlike the other three coasters, one ride consists of two laps of the track. Not a particularly exciting coaster but to me riding this was as important as the other three bigger coasters. I had two goes: one in the front row followed by one in back row, in order to compare the difference. Riding at the front gave me an unobstructed view of the track ahead, whereas riding at the back I could see the front of the train ahead of me going around the bends. Apart from that there seemed little difference between the front and back.

Magic Mouse
Now for the mouse coaster Magic Mouse. This Reverchon Spinning Coaster has been operating at Brean since 2007. There was just one problem: I was the only rider at the ride entrance, but due to the wind speed there had to be three riders in a car. Thankfully two more riders turned up shortly afterwards, so the attendant put me and them on one car together. The ride car left the station, ascended the lift hill and worked its way along a series of straight bits and U-bends. Altogether a fun ride, enhanced by the car spinning on each U-bend. Due to the inconvenience of requiring other people to ride with, I just had one go for now.

Shockwave
Back to the looping coaster Shockwave. Once again, I limited myself to one go for now.

Astro Storm
At last Astro Storm was running. This Zierer Four Man Bob is the former Space Invader 2 from Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool. Late July 2011 it began operating at Fun City as Astro Storm. The 3-seater train, which resembles a space ship, goes through the doors, turns right and ascends the lift hill. On the way up are lights which change between red and green. Personally I think they're superfluous really. Once at the top, there's a thrusting sound and the train winds its way along the course of the track. Along the way you pass tiny lights, which presumably resemble stars. There are also strong air currents to add to the fun, though I question their significance considering there is no air in Space! Finally there are more bizarre lighting effects in the home straight before the train stops at the exit platform. I enjoyed four goes on this: Si8 front, Si1 back, Si1 front, Si1 middle. My verdict: better than X:\No Way Out at Thorpe Park, but I'm not overly keen on it.

Magic Mouse
So far I'd ridden the other three coasters at least twice each, but had only ridden Magic Mouse once. Determined to have at least one more go on Magic Mouse I approached its entrance. Two other riders were already there, eagerly awaiting a third person to provide the necessary three riders. Thus the attendant asked me to ride with them in car 8. This was my only go this time around, and indeed last go on this for today as I never returned to it later.

Now that I'd ridden each coaster at least twice, I rode a few non-coaster rides before lunch.

Terror Castle
A ghost train. The train runs on a track, which has ups and downs, so can this be classed as a coaster? As you would expect there are some spooky / gory characters along the way. One character had fluid coming out of his mouth to look like he was being sick. Just before the end I was sprinkled with liquid, thankfully it was only water. My verdict: alright but not overly impressed with it; I thought certain lighting effects were overkill. This was my only go on here all day.

Waltzer
Self-explanatory, I fancied a go on this next. The 1981 Eurovision Song Contest winner "Making Your Mind Up" (Bucks Fizz – UK) was playing whilst the previous lot got off and I plus others got on. I didn't time the duration of the ride but it lasted a generous amount of time. Although the spinning action resulted in a fun ride, once was enough for now. As it happened, I never returned to this later in the day.

Next I queued for Sizzler (Cyclone), but when the ride that was in progress ended, the attendant said this was going to be closed for a while, so I looked for something else to go on.

Hellraiser
A set of ride cars attached to a central structure. As the central structure spins clockwise at high speed, the ride cars go up and down over the perimeter undulations, and are flung slightly outwards due to centrifugal force. Although another fun ride, once at a time was enough. I didn't return to this later in the day. This was my final ride before lunch.

Lunch at Subway
Feeling peckish, I left Fun City and went to Subway just up the road for some lunch. I got there at 1:05pm. Unfortunately a lot of other people must have decided to have lunch at that time too. There was a queue and it took me what seemed like ages to get served. At 1:22pm I was finally able to sit down and eat my meal: a 6 inch Sub Meal (Italian BMT + coffee).

Fun City Afternoon Riding
At 1:44pm I was back in Fun City, and continued as follows.

Bumpy Slide
A four lane Astra slide. Since I'd just had lunch, I went on this next. One payment of tokens or showing one's wristband once gets you two slides. Having queued and shown my wristband, I enjoyed two goes. Afterwards I queued again for two more goes. For some reason the far left lane (as you stand at the top facing downwards) was closed. However the other three lanes were in use. On each go the slide was quite fast and I went right across the run-out into the padded wall at the end.

Wave Swinger
Next I rode the Wave Swinger, largely due to the fact that it's located close to the bumpy slide. The ride experience was no different to any other Wave Swinger, but still once was enough for me. This was my only go on here all day.

X Factory
This KMG ride looks and works like a Miami. Its row of seats beneath two vertical arms goes up, sideways and down. The attendant told me this ride also has water jets which are used certain days, but they were switched off today. Going up, across and down was extremely exciting, I even had pops of airtime. For now I only had one go.

Frisbee
A witch's hat type ride. I fancied a go on this next. A fun ride, but one go on Frisbee was ample for me. This was my only go on here all day.

X Factory
Back to X Factory for one more go, and it was just as much fun as my earlier go. This ended up being my final go of the day on here.

Sooty photo
Just after 3pm Sooty appeared outside his studio. I had my photo taken with him.

Astro Storm
Back to the Astro Storm. The waiting time varied, but it was never more than a few minutes. This time I enjoyed six goes: Si6 (front), Si8 (back), Si8 (front), Si6 (back), Si6 (back), Si8 (back).

Sizzler
Just about everyone in the RCCGB must have been on this sort of ride at least once somewhere, you may have seen it called Twister or perhaps Cyclone. For some strange reason Fun City call theirs the Sizzler, I'm not sure why. I had one go on this. Another fun ride, and still one of my favourite non-coaster rides.

Wild Water
A log flume. Whilst queuing I put my cagoule and leggings on so as not to get wet. When it was my turn I got into one log and set off. The layout of this is somewhat similar to the one at Cornwall's Crealy; the log went up the first lift hill, and down creating a splash. After that it went up the second (taller) lift hill, and down creating an even bigger splash. Finally the log returned to the station. Altogether a fun ride.

Being as I had my wet weather gear on, I queued again for a second go. At the end of my second go, I left the ride and removed my rain gear.

Sky Diver
A drop tower. The ring of outward facing seats rose and fell several times. A fun ride, better than Trauma Tower at Woodlands, but tame compared to Ice Blast at Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool. This was my only go on this all day, I wish I'd had time for more goes.

Xtreme
Similar to Hydro Max at Pleasure Island Cleethorpes. This has two pairs of seats back to back at one end of the boom, with another identical set at the other end. I sat at one end, and the ride set off. As the ride picked up speed, it felt like riding a big wheel, but much better. The motion gave the sensation of flying through the air, up, backwards over the top and down again. Sometimes the set unit flipped over at the top; when that happened it seemed strange momentarily seeing the sky below me. When the ride ended I was stuck at the top, whilst the attendant changed riders at the other end. Finally the boom turned half a revolution so I could leave and more riders could get on at the end where I was. This was my only go on here all day.

By the way, the rumour I heard late last year is true: the Xtreme that was in exactly the same spot (and which I rode during the RCCGB Summer Bash 3 September 2011) ceased to be at Fun City late last year. The identical ride, also called Xtreme, that's here now is brand new, built this year. Therefore the current Xtreme which I had one go on late afternoon today is not the same ride as I went on last year. That will be confusing for ride counters who create cumulative counts of rides during multiple visits to a park over time; many will erroneously think this is the same ride as was here in the 2011 season.

Sizzler
My final non-coaster ride at Brean, one go on Sizzler. I enjoyed this go just as much as my earlier one.

Shockwave
There were now just a few minutes left before my daytime wristband was due to expire at 5pm, so I had one go on the looping coaster Shockwave. When I left the train, there was just enough time (a couple of minutes) in which to return to the entry platform and have a second go. At the end of my second go the time was 5:02pm, i.e. my wristband had expired.

Saturday Evening

Bus to Weston-super-Mare
Now that my wristband had expired, it was time to head back to Weston-super-Mare. Unlike last year, it wasn't possible for another RCCGB member to offer me a lift. Thankfully there wasn't too long a wait for the 17:23 number 112 bus to Weston-super-Mare. As soon as it turned up (a couple of minutes early) I got on and it departed on time.

Walk Along Seafront
At 5:54pm I left the bus at Sandpiper bus stop by Clarence Park. That's close to where I was dropped off on the seafront last year. After that I walked along the seafront, just like last year. Along the way I saw Carters Funfair, but just like last year didn't go on any of their rides.

My plan for the next couple of hours was just like last year: enjoy a fish and chip takeaway and take a walk around the Grand Pier before resuming my bus journey home around 7:30pm. One subtle difference though: I was hoping to have a ride or two on the pier. There was one other obvious difference which suddenly struck me whilst walking along the seafront: I wouldn't be meeting Lucy Cosnett and Carol, or any other RCCGB members on Grand Pier.

Takeaway
At 6:15pm I got to The Waterfront Fish Bar (which is opposite Grand Pier). From there I had a fish and chip takeaway. I sat on the sea wall to enjoy my fish and chips. Afterwards I enjoyed another seaside must-have: a whippy ice cream from PJ's.

Grand Pier
Having finished my ice cream at 6:41pm I went on Grand Pier and walked straight to the Pavilion at the end. There I fancied one go on the Free Fall drop tower (2 credits) and one go on Helter Skelter (1 credit). Although there were ticket machines on the ground floor, I had a 25% off rides coupon which I wanted to use. An attendant told me I would have to go to shop upstairs to use that coupon.

I ascended the up escalator (SJEC) to the first floor, and went to the shop selling ride tickets. There I was able to use the 25% coupon to buy 3 credits. That would have cost me 3 x £1 = £3, but with the 25% discount coupon I only had to pay £2.25. Whilst being served I joked I'd already been on one of their rides made by SJEC (the up escalator). Having left the shop, I briefly went on to the first floor balcony and looked towards the sea front before descending the down escalator to the ground floor. Without further ado I took to the rides.

Free Fall
A drop tower. I didn't ask how tall it is, obviously being an indoor ride its height is limited by the height of the building. Nor did I find out who made it. This one is more like the Trauma Tower at Woodlands in that it has a row of seats on the side of the tower (a stark difference from the seating arrangement on Sky Diver at Brean). The seat unit rose up the tower, through a hole in the first floor and reached its summit well above first floor level. After that there were plenty of partial drops and rises before the final descent. Altogether a fun ride, although the ride experience can be better compared with Trauma Tower at Woodlands than Sky Diver at Brean or Ice Blast at Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool. I only had one go on this.

Helter Skelter
This is a bit different to a traditional funfair helter skelter. You go up the staircase in the middle and land on a wide open area. At the top you have a choice of two spiral slides (one red and one blue) which go around the outside; you wait at the top of the slide you want to go down. When the preceding slider has cleared the bottom you can go. I decided to go down the red slide. At the start I went disappointingly slowly, but gradually picked up speed on the way, and was going really fast towards the end.

I checked with the attendant how many goes you get for one credit; he said just one slide. Looking back I now wish I'd bought one more credit in order to have one go on the blue slide as well.

Summary of Grand Pier Rides
Free Fall 1 go.
Helter Skelter red slide 1 go.

After that I left the Pavilion and walked back along the pier to the exit. At 7:20pm I was finally off the pier. Without further ado I walked straight to the group of bus stops in Alexandra Parade. The next bus to Bristol was due at 19:36. Meanwhile I resisted the temptation to look for a takeaway coffee nearby as I didn't want to risk missing that particular bus.

Journey Home
From Alexandra Parade I caught the 19:36 bus to Bristol Bus Station. I felt really tired when I sat on the top deck, as it was now over 12 hours since I left Bath Bus Station this morning, and nearly 14 hours since I woke up. Having reached Bristol Bus Station I caught the 21:00 bus to Bath. I finally arrived Bath Bus Station at 9:44pm and home at 10pm.

Highlights
Re-riding the four coasters and many other rides that I first rode at Fun City last year.
Riding Astro Storm four times straight off in the morning and six times straight off in the afternoon.
Meeting Sooty at 3pm.
Fish and chip takeaway followed by whippy ice cream on Weston-super-Mare sea front.
Free Fall and Helter Skelter on Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare.

Lowlights
Difficulty finding the correct bus stop for the Weston-super-Mare to Brean bus mid-morning.

Summing Up
Altogether a fun day out. This was my first visit to Fun City since the Summer Bash last year, and also my first ever time of going there alone. Naturally one year on from last year's Summer Bash, during which I rode with Happy Helen all day, I felt someone was missing whilst on the rides this time. Nonetheless I still thoroughly enjoyed riding the four coasters (Astro Storm, Caterpillar Coaster, Shockwave and Magic Mouse) and other rides at Brean Leisure Park Fun City again. My biggest achievement was clocking up 10 goes on Astro Storm as I wasn't expecting to have that many goes on it. Just one point about the four coasters, they're all steel. Come on Brean, get some wood!

RCCGB Mega-GLOW-Mania Weekend 2012

Date: Friday 10 August to Sunday 12 August 2012
Venues: Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities
Who Went: Me and a large number of other RCCGB members, including Andy Hine, Alan Chilvers, Brian Smith, Dan, Dave Perry, Doug, Charlie and Emily, Gareth Arkell, Gareth Preece, Lucy Cosnett, Mary and James, Planenut, Ryan Hackett.

DISCLAIMER: The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of everyone who attended. It's a small sample of attendees; mainly those I spoke to and/or rode with at Oakwood and/or Folly Farm. I sincerely apologise to anyone I've not listed. Not everyone (whether or not listed above) attended all three Parks.

Introduction
The Club's annual visit to rural Pembrokeshire, primarily to visit Oakwood Theme Park. Just like last year, the visit to Oakwood was on a Friday when the Park was open to the public until 10pm, thereby enabling us to end the day with the traditional dark ERS on Megafobia. Going to Oakwood on Friday allowed the Club to also visit Folly Farm near Kilgetty on Saturday (and have exclusive use of the Vintage Funfair after closing time), plus Heatherton World of Activities on Sunday.

Thursday 9 August

Getting To Tenby
For me the weekend began with a train journey from Bath Spa to Tenby, which unfortunately had a few problems. Firstly, the 13:36 Bath Spa to Newport train actually left Bath at 13:42. Upon reaching Newport, the connecting 14:31 Newport to Swansea train was even more late-running; it left Newport at 14:48. Luckily it still reached Swansea with a few minutes to spare for the 16:00 Swansea to Tenby train, which departed on time. I finally reached Tenby at 17:37. Having reached Tenby, I went straight to the Myrtle House Hotel where I stayed three nights.

Thursday Evening
Around 7pm I went out to get dinner somewhere. Nearby I found The Three Mariners pub and asked if they were serving meals this evening. They were, so I looked at the menu. I had cottage pie with mash, peas and home-made gravy for main course, followed by syrup sponge pudding with custard for dessert. In addition I had half a pint of John Smiths Extra Smooth to accompany my meal. Altogether, a delicious meal. When I left after my meal, it was still sunny outside so I went for a walk around part of the town and along part of the south beach before returning to my hotel.

Day 1 - Friday 10 August

Friday First Thing
Having awoke at 6:30am I had an early breakfast at 7:30am consisting of a bowl of cornflakes, glass of orange juice, beans on toast, four triangles of toast and a cafetiere of coffee. I chose beans on toast as I felt that would be a lighter alternative to a full traditional fried breakfast; important to consider before going on rides. Just before 8am the taxi which was booked for me Thursday evening was waiting outside to take me to Oakwood.

Welcome To Oakwood
After I reached Oakwood around 8:30am, other members gradually arrived. I was really excited because this was my first ever time of attending Mega-Glow-Mania since joining the RCCGB in March 2005, and indeed first ever visit to Oakwood.

Megafobia ERS
Around 9:00 the Club entered the Park to begin the day with a one-hour ERS on the famous woodie Megafobia. To avoid splitting the group up too much when so few attended, only one train ran. Even so, everyone enjoyed plenty of goes in our allotted time. I enjoyed six goes, including a back seat go with Ryan and front seat ride with Planenut.

Freetime
Once the ERS ended, the Club took over Bobsleigh and Treetops. I then had time for two goes on Waterfall (one go on one slide against Brian and one go on the other slide against Dan) before the Club took over Speed. After that, the Club spread all over the Park. I rode Spooky 3D with Dave Perry and Ryan. Thereafter I rode Brer Rabbit, Circus Clown, Plane Crazy and Bounce alone.

Around 1:45 I returned to the exit with Doug, Charlie and Emily hoping for the 2pm baseball, only to discover it had been brought forward an hour and abandoned due to the heat. Back inside the Park, Drenched was now open. It was quite popular with members and the general public, presumably to cool off in the intense heat. I rode it once with Planenut and once solo.

Late afternoon I went on Bobsleigh, but due to its half hour wait had just one go. Afterwards I discovered a drop slide Skyleap, on which I enjoyed eight goes. During the evening I enjoyed all four Snake River Falls slides, Treetops coaster and Pirate Ship once each, Speed and Plane Crazy twice each, Bounce three times and another four drops on Skyleap. My final two rides during daylight were one go on each Waterfall slide; annoyingly I got my jeans wet as the sun was setting and there would be little hope of them drying off.

At dusk I enjoyed a chicken burger meal followed by two doughnuts. Also I spoke to Doug for a few minutes. After that time allowed me one more go on Bounce in the dark before the slightly delayed, but highly impressive laser and firework display.

Dark ERS
With the public now gone, the finale was our dark ERS on Megafobia. Many of us wore or held glow sticks to create a glowing effect. Doug kindly gave me two of his spare glow sticks (one for each wrist); also I wore a fluorescent yellow cagoule and held a torch on the coaster. Although only one train ran, everyone enjoyed plenty of goes. I enjoyed eight goes, one of which was with Nev. Party music completed the atmosphere.

Back To Tenby
At 11:15pm I left for my taxi back to Tenby. Around 11:45pm I got back to my room at The Myrtle House Hotel, Tenby feeling really tired.

Altogether a wonderful day at Oakwood, especially the morning ERS on Megafobia, and evening dark ERS on Megafobia. Turnout may have been lower than usual, but those who went had a fun day, also it was hot and sunny for once. It was extra satisfying for me to attend Mega-Glow-Mania for the first time since joining the RCCGB in March 2005. Not just for visiting Oakwood and trying out its rides for the first time, but also because in recent years some members have asked me why I didn't attend Mega-Glow-Mania 2005 to 2011 inclusive, yet regularly attended certain other Club trips in that time. For me it was great adding another woodie Megafobia, plus three more steelies (Treetops, Speed and Circus Clown) to my coaster count, meeting Nev, Ryan, the two Gareths, Dave Perry, Planenut and others again and also meeting Doug and his children whom I don't recall talking to on previous Club trips. Many thanks to Nev for arranging this day at Oakwood, Doug for giving me two glow sticks and Shawn the taxi driver.

Day 2 - Saturday 11 August

Saturday First Thing
Having awoke at 7am, I had breakfast at 8am: bowl of cornflakes, glass of orange juice, full traditional fried breakfast, four triangles of toast and a cafetiere of coffee. Since I wasn't going to be riding during the morning I was willing to have a traditional fried breakfast Saturday. Furthermore I was able to enjoy breakfast at a more relaxed pace than Friday.

Daytime
Having travelled by bus from Tenby, I arrived Folly Farm around 10:15. The public were already going in. I thought I'd have to wait outside until the official meet-up time of 11am, but by showing my letter, trip badge and membership card I was allowed in immediately. Thus I must have been the first RCCGB member booked on this trip to arrive.

I began by exploring the area around the big wheel and outdoor play areas (pirate ship, sandpit, etc.), followed by the Vintage Funfair. Just before 11:00am I met Nev. Around 11:15 I enjoyed playing on all parts of Carousel Woods indoor play structure for about an hour. After that I saw part of the zoo including the giraffes, zebras and emus. I met a few other RCCGB members by the emu enclosure.

Around 2:15pm I had a light snack at Carousel Café. Some other RCCGB members were there too, including Lucy Cosnett who wasn't at Oakwood. After lunch I saw more of the zoo, including Folly Amazonia, Okawango Delta and reindeer. Late afternoon I had a cappuccino with Nev and other RCCGB members. After that I enjoyed one go on the helter skelter before taking a rapid walk through Folly Interactive. Finally I rounded off normal opening time by playing on all parts of Carousel Woods for about half an hour.

After Closing Time
The Park officially closed at 5:30pm. For us the best was yet to follow: our Exclusive Fair Session in the Vintage Funfair. Together we rode the Caterpillar Ride, Coronation Speedway, Rock n' Roll Waltzer, Jets and Dodgem Track once each (some but not me were lucky enough to have two goes on Dodgem Track).

After a basket meal in the café we had a few more rides: Lakin Swirl, Chair-o-Plane, Gallopers and Cyclone Twist once each (however some including me were lucky enough to get two goes on Cyclone Twist). Finally we had a drink in the bar before leaving. After leaving around 8:30pm Mary and James kindly gave me a lift back to my hotel in Tenby where I relaxed in my room the rest of the evening.

Another fun day, despite being a bit tame compared to Oakwood on Friday. It was great seeing many people who were at Oakwood for the second day running, plus Lucy Cosnett who wasn't at Oakwood. I particularly enjoyed playing on Carousel Woods indoor play structure late morning and late afternoon, plus one go on the helter skelter late afternoon. Best of all were the activities after 5:30pm, i.e. rides, basket meal and final drink. Many thanks to Nev for arranging this day, including EFS, at Folly Farm, and to Mary and James for giving me a lift back to my hotel in the evening.

Day 3 - Sunday 12 August

Introduction
The final day of Mega-Glow-Mania weekend 2012. Mid-morning some members met at Heatherton World of Activities to enjoy go-karting and/or other activities available there. Nev even arranged an EGS (exclusive go-kart session) for those interested; according to the trip invitation it was billed to run from 10.00am to 11.30am. For various reasons I gave Heatherton a miss. The following outlines how I spent Sunday.

Sunday First Thing
Having awoke at 7am, I got ready and packed my belongings, I had breakfast at 8am. I had the same selection as Saturday morning including full cooked, and enjoyed it at an even more relaxed pace than Saturday. After leaving Myrtle House Hotel for the last time around 9:50am, I walked along the northern sea front, and briefly went on the beach.

From Tenby to Swansea
Having reached Tenby station around 10:45am, I caught the 11:14 train from Tenby to Carmarthen for the onward 11:29 train to Swansea, and got there around 1:15pm. Once there I walked across the city centre in a round-a-bout way to Swansea LC.

Swansea LC Water Park
Just after 2pm I went into Swansea LC for a water sliding session, and stayed in until 4:45pm. The place was busier than I'd have liked, but I enjoyed 14 goes on the Aqua Tube (closed narrow tube slide) and 6 goes on the Aqua Slide (wide open top slide). Most importantly I had one go on the Master Blaster roller coaster water slide, it's a pity I didn't have time for more goes on that. Altogether a wet and wild way to round off Mega-Glow-Mania weekend.

More about Sunday afternoon at Swansea LC Water Park available here

Rest of Sunday
Around 5:10pm I went to The Bank Statement (Wetherspoons) for a Sunday Club Meal, which included a roast meal (I chose beef) plus a drink from the Sunday Club menu. For an additional fee I added a fruit crumble and custard from the Sunday Club dessert selection. Having left Wetherspoons at 6:25pm I walked straight back to the station, whereupon I caught the 18:51 train to Cardiff Central. The onward 20:18 Portsmouth Harbour train should have taken me straight to Bath Spa. Unfortunately a problem with the train meant everyone had to transfer to a replacement train at Bristol Temple Meads. Nonetheless I still reached Bath Spa at the expected time, and home about 20 minutes later.

Club takeovers of Bobsleigh, Treetops Coaster and Speed Friday morning.
Adding another woodie Megafobia, plus three more steelies (Treetops, Speed and Circus Clown) to my coaster count.
Light and firework display just after 10pm Friday.
Playing on Carousel Woods indoor play structure late morning and late afternoon Saturday.
Exclusive Fair Session on the Vintage Funfair rides plus basket meal in the café Saturday evening.
Water sliding at Swansea LC Water Park Sunday afternoon (particularly my one go on Master Blaster).
Meeting Nev, Alan Chilvers, Ryan, the two Gareths, Dave Perry, Lucy Cosnett, Planenut and others again; plus Doug and his children whom I don't recall talking to on previous Club trips.

Lowlights
Delays to the first two stages of my train journey Thursday afternoon; thankfully I managed to get my connections at Newport and Swansea as planned.
Getting my jeans wet on Waterfall at dusk Friday evening when it was starting to get cooler.
Limited choice (no beef burgers or cheese burgers) at Woody's Burger Bar when I went there around 8:45pm Friday evening.
Accidentally leaving my camera by Megafobia after the dark ERS; thankfully Nev found it and returned it to me at Folly Farm Saturday morning.
Insufficient time for more rides during the EFS Saturday evening.
Slide queues longer than I would have liked Sunday afternoon, particularly for the Master Blaster.
Only having time for one go on Master Blaster, it's a pity there wasn't time for more.
Unexpected additional change at Bristol Temple Meads Sunday evening due to a problem with the train from Cardiff.

Summing Up
Altogether fun-packed long weekend away. For me it was wonderful Oakwood and Folly Farm, and thus ride many of their rides (particularly Oakwood's Megafobia) for the first time ever. Many thanks again to Nev for arranging the trips to Oakwood and Folly Farm (also Heatherton for those who went), Doug for giving me two glow sticks and Shawn the taxi driver (Friday), Mary and James for giving me a lift back to my hotel Saturday evening. One other bit of trivia worth mentioning: I went down at least one slide of some sort Friday, Saturday and Sunday as follows:
Friday: Skyleap drop slide at Oakwood.
Saturday: Carousel Woods bumpy slide and tube slides at Folly Farm.
Sunday: Aqua Tube, Aqua Slide and Master Blaster water slides at Swansea LC Water Park.

I look forward to seeing you and everyone else on a future Club trip, whenever that will be. Reluctantly I won't be attending either day of Loopathon this year. Therefore my next RCCGB trip will most likely be the Blackpool Bash 2013.

Nemesis Nick at Swansea LC Water Park August 2012

Date: Sunday 12 August 2012
Venue: Swansea LC Water Park
Who Went: Just me.

Introduction
Officially this was the final day of RCCGB Mega-Glow-Mania weekend 2012. After the Club visited Oakwood Theme Park on Friday 10 August and Folly Farm on Saturday 11 August, some members chose to spend Sunday at Heatherton World of Activities. Although I attended both Oakwood and Folly Farm the previous two days, I gave Heatherton a miss for various reasons. Whilst planning my Sunday train travel, I discovered that by leaving Tenby at 11:14am, I could reach Swansea around 1:15pm, and thus enjoy an afternoon session water sliding at Swansea LC Water Park during the rest of the afternoon before resuming my train journey home to Bath in the evening.

Welcome To Swansea LC
I finally reached the LC reception just after 2pm. My only concern was how many lockers I would require to store all my luggage. Thankfully I managed to find a tall locker big enough to contain my large holdall, rucksack and laptop bag.

Background Information
The old Swansea Leisure Centre opened in 1977 and closed in 2003. During 2007 the building was gutted out and rebuilt internally at a cost of £32 million. In March 2008, the current LC opened on the site of the old Leisure Centre, and it's completely different to what it used to be inside. I know, I went to the fun pool and slides at the old Swansea Leisure Centre during my week long Swansea holiday in June 2000. The current LC has commonly been known as LC2 (even I've called it that), since the wave logo which appears after the initials LC resembles a 2, but officially it is LC. Logically though, one could say the current LC is the second leisure centre to be housed within the same building shell. This was my second visit to the LC Water Park in its current form, having previously been there early September 2008.

Swansea LC Water Park Features
The water park boasts several features, outlined below.

Aqua Tube
A narrow twisting closed tube water slide, which lands in a catch tray.

Aqua Slide
This water slide is open top all the way down. There's a u-bend to the right just after the start, followed by a straight bit, a bend to the right, a straight bit, u-bend to the left and finally land in a catch tray.

Master Blaster
You need an inflatable tyre to ride this roller coaster water slide. There are several places where it goes up as well as down. If the RCCGB decided to do an organised visit here (e.g. outside the coaster season) this would be the one for us to have an ERS on.

The Aqua Tube, Aqua Slide and Master Blaster were made by Aqua Leisure International, but I don't know the heights of the slides.

Wave Pool
A funny shaped fun pool with wave machine. It's not on continuously, but the wave sessions are quite frequent.

Lazy River
This spurs off the Wave Pool. You swim around clockwise with the flow.

Boardrider
A surf facility which you have to wear a surf suit and helmet for. I think you have to pay extra for it; anyhow I gave this a miss.

All of the above have been there since the place opened in 2008.

Volcano Bay
According to this article, Volcano Bay opened in summer 2010. Looking at that said article, it's a mock-up of a volcano with a slide descending from it. I didn't bother with this during my visit.

The only extra Swansea LC Water Park could do with is a space bowl. Every good water park should have one. Strangely enough, the old Swansea Leisure Centre actually had a space bowl.

My Session In The Water Park
Having changed I handed my key to an attendant in exchange for a wristband. The session was officially due to last about two hours. At the end of my session my wristband colour would be called, telling me and everyone else with the same coloured wristband to leave.

I began with four goes on the Aqua Tube. Its queue was very short on my first go but was longer by my fourth go. Next I enjoyed three goes on the Aqua Slide. The waiting time for that was longer. After that the waves happened to be on, so I went in the wave pool for a few minutes to enjoy the waves. Once the waves subsided I swam four laps of the Lazy River.

As a RCCGB member, I was determined to go on the roller coaster water slide Master Blaster, so I went to get a tyre. The queue for tyres was really long, I had to wait what seemed like ages to get a tyre. Once I finally had one I went up the stairs and joined another fairly long queue. When I finally reached the front, the lifeguard asked if I'd been on this before. I said I'd been on it in September 2008, and had since been on a similar slide at Butlins Skegness and Minehead, as well as Blackpool Water Park, thus I knew what to do. Seated on my tyre, I set off on the Master Blaster around much of the water park, taking in uphill as well as downhill sections. A mega fun ride which was all over too soon. Sadly this was my only go on this all afternoon as I didn't want to wait ages queuing again for it.

Next I returned to the Aqua Tube. Its queue was now longer than I'd have liked, but nonetheless I enjoyed another four goes. After that I found the Aqua Slide queue even longer, so limited myself to just two goes.

Just after 4pm I asked a lifeguard how much longer I had before my wristband colour would be called. He said they weren't busy enough this afternoon to need to call colours out; they only do that when it's busy. I was surprised to hear that as the place seemed quite busy to me; the queues seemed quite long (particularly for the Master Blaster). Anyway, he said I could stay in as long as I wanted. Obviously I wanted to allow myself adequate time to get a meal between leaving the LC and going to the station for the train I was booked to catch.

During the remainder of the session I enjoyed 6 goes on the Aqua Tube. Its queue gradually got shorter in that time. So did the queue for the Aqua Slide, so to finish off I had one final go on Aqua Slide before leaving the pool area at 4:45pm. Having dried myself and dressed, I finally left the LC around 5pm.

Summary of my sliding in actual order:
Aqua Tube 4
Aqua Slide 3
Waves + 4 laps of river ride
Master Blaster 1
Aqua Tube 4
Aqua Slide 2
Aqua Tube 6
Aqua Slide 1

Highlights
Sliding the Aqua Tube and Aqua Slide.
My one go on Master Blaster roller coaster water slide.

Lowlights
Slide queues longer than I would have liked, particularly for the Master Blaster (both its tyre collection point and launch point)
Only having time for one go on Master Blaster, it's a pity there wasn't time for more.

Summing Up
A fun afternoon at Swansea LC Water Park to round off Mega-Glow-Mania weekend. It was great to slide the Aqua Tube, Aqua Slide and Master Blaster again having been on them during my previous visit here early September 2008. The Master Blaster roller coaster water slide is definitely the best of the three, it's a pity I didn't have time for more than just one go on it.

RCCGB Folly Farm 2012

Date: Saturday 11 August 2012
Venue: Folly Farm near Kilgetty
Who Went: Me and a large number of other RCCGB members, including Andy Hine, Alan Chilvers, Brian Smith, Dave Perry, Lucy Cosnett, Mary and James, Planenut, Ryan Hackett.

DISCLAIMER: The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of everyone who attended. It's a small sample of attendees; mainly those I spoke to and/or rode with at Folly Farm. I sincerely apologise to anyone I've not listed.

N.B. Any use of "today" or "Saturday" in this report means Saturday 11 August 2012. Any use of "Friday" means Friday 10 August 2012.

Rationale For Trip
An add-on to RCCGB Mega-Glow-Mania 2012. After the Club's visit to Oakwood Theme Park on Friday 10 August, it was only logical to spend Saturday 11 August at nearby Folly Farm. Many RCCGB members who attended Oakwood on Friday also attended Folly Farm on Saturday. In addition a few members who didn't attend Oakwood on Friday for whatever reason still managed to attend Folly Farm as if it was a standalone Club trip. Having attended Oakwood on Friday, I was equally determined to attend Folly Farm Saturday. The itinerary was less formal than Friday: (i) the daytime was free for everyone to enjoy the Park amenities at their leisure, (ii) after closing time the day would culminate in an exclusive fair session in the Vintage Funfair, plus a basket meal in the café.

Saturday First Thing
Saturday morning did not require such an early start as Friday. Having awoke at 7:00am I had breakfast at the normal time of 8:00am consisting of a bowl of cornflakes, glass of orange juice, full traditional breakfast, four triangles of toast and a cafetiere of coffee. Being as I wasn't likely to be going on rides during the morning, I was eager to try a full traditional breakfast (2 fried eggs, 2 rashers of bacon, 1 sausage, baked beans, mushrooms, 1 hash brown) today. Furthermore I was able to enjoy my breakfast at a more leisurely pace than Friday morning.

Getting To Folly Farm
Unlike Oakwood on Friday, I was able to get to Folly Farm by bus. I left my hotel at 9:17am and walked to the bus stops the other side of town. There I caught the 9:40 Haverfordwest bus which stopped right outside Folly Farm.

Welcome To Folly Farm
I reached Folly Farm at 10:13. According to the trip letter, we were officially due to enter as a group at 11:00am. However Folly Farm was already open, and the general public were being admitted. Immediately I showed the receptionist my trip letter, badge and RCCGB membership card, explained that I was on the trip and was allowed in straightaway. Thus I must have been the first RCCGB member booked on this trip to be admitted to Folly Farm.

Normal Opening Time
I began by exploring Folly Farm. Firstly I walked past the big wheel and through the area where the outdoor play facilities (pirate ship, sandpit, etc.) are located. After a while I entered the building which houses the Vintage Funfair rides. Whilst inside I walked around the funfair, and was surprised to see so many rides. Just before 11:00am I met Nev by Carousel Woods play area. He returned my camera to me, which I'd accidentally left by Megafobia during the dark ERS at Oakwood Friday evening. I told him I'd already explored the Vintage Funfair. He pointed out that I'd need to buy tokens if I wanted to go on the rides during the day.

Carousel Woods
A wooden indoor play area, which adults are allowed to play on. It includes the following facilities:
4-lane Astra slide
Four tube slides
Log ramps and bridges
Multi-level towers; inter-floor access is by ladders and/or climbing / dropping through holes

I played in Carousel Woods from approximately 11:15am to 12:15pm. In that time I went down the four Astra slide lanes four times each and all the tube slides four times each. I covered all parts of the play area including going up and down through the holes between levels in the towers. The tallest tower situated near the front of the play area has three wooden "proper" upper floors (first, second, third) above the ground floor, one ladder linking the first and second floors and another ladder linking the second and third floors. In addition, each of the said floors has a hole in it. I went through the hole in the third floor, through the holes in two intermediate levels, through the second floor, through two more intermediate levels, through the first floor and through more intermediate levels to the ground floor, and vice versa. My only problem was where to put my rucksack. I tended to put it somewhere on the play structure and move it from time to time depending where I was. There really ought to be lockers nearby for you to put luggage in.

The Zoo
Around 12:20pm I began exploring the zoo, starting with the giraffe and zebra enclosure in the Motobo Hills (African Reserve) section. Other animals in the Motobo Hills area included red river hog and ostrich. Next I saw the following other areas of the zoo:
Folly Forests (life in the trees): Eastern Bongo, Red Ruffed Lemur.
Coping With Extremes (desert heat): Emu, Bactrian camel (which has 2 humps), Meerkat.

I met a few other members including Nev and Alan Chilvers by the emu enclosure. Shortly afterwards I met a few more members including Ryan Hackett and Dave Perry. Evidently other members besides me were interested in seeing the zoo. We posed together for a few group shots.

Mid Afternoon Snack
Around 2:15pm I felt hungry, so went to Carousel Café for a light snack. I just wanted a baguette and a cup of coffee, but it actually worked out cheaper to have those as a £5.25 Baguette Meal (which also included a packet of crisps that I didn't really want) than buying a separate baguette and cup of coffee! For now I only ate the baguette and drank the coffee; I put the crisps in my rucksack for later.

Nev and a few other members were also having lunch now, so I sat by them. Unexpectedly I also met Lucy Cosnett who wasn't at Oakwood the day before. I spoke to the others, particularly Lucy who I didn't have chance to meet at Oakwood.

The Zoo (Continued)
I returned to the zoo to see the animals I hadn't seen earlier. Areas I saw this time, and examples of animals within each one, are listed below.
Pembrokeshire Patagonia: Alpaca.
Coping With Extremes (desert heat): African Spurred Tortoise plus information about various deserts of the world.
Okawango Delta (wetlands of Africa): Sacred Ibis, White Stork.
Folly Amazonia (the mighty Amazon): Ocelot, Capybara.
Coping With Extremes (cold climate): Reindeer.
Folly Forests (life in the trees): Orange Winged Amazon Parrot.

I walked up the path in the corner of the zoo where it says "More animals this way". Although a dead end, some of what is listed above (e.g. Folly Amazonia, Okawango Delta, reindeer) was up that path.

Zoolympics
Dotted around the zoo are a few Zoolympics challenges and I tried some of them as I walked around the zoo.

Get your dancing shoes on
Dance like a crane by following the four steps. I tried this once through only; I ought to have put my rucksack on the ground and done the four steps several times.

Hang on a minute
Hang from a wooden frame like a lemur. I tried, but could only hang on a few seconds.

Reach your potential
See if you can reach as far as a swan. According to the information board, the Trumpeter Swan has a wingspan of 2.5 metres. I tried reaching my arms out as wide as I could. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of how far I managed to reach but it was nowhere near 2.5 metres!

Coffee Time
At 4:15pm I was by the café called Coffee Shop, and fancied a cup of coffee. Several different types of coffee were available from the machine. Being as they were all the same price I decided to have a cappuccino. Several other RCCGB members including Nev were sitting at one of the outside tables, so I sat with them to drink my cappuccino, and talk to them.

Helter Skelter
At this point I fancied a go on the helter skelter. The fare was one 50p token, which got me just one go. In order to completely cover my arms to prevent friction burns (I only had a t-shirt on), I was provided with a fleece top to wear whilst going down the slide. This is the first place I've ever been to that's forced sliders to do that. Once at the top I enjoyed one go down the spiral slide, my first go on a helter skelter anywhere for this year.

Folly Interactive
I thought this would be a hands-on science centre like At-Bristol or Techniquest Cardiff Bay, but it's not. There are more animals in here. Being as it was late in the day I took a rapid walk through here. The animals I really paid attention to here were the blue and gold Macaw and the guinea pig. I noticed the sign about the guinea pig stating "I'm not a pig and I don't come from Guinea!". Whilst I already knew that I was surprised to learn that guinea pigs are considered a tasty delicacy in Peru.

Carousel Woods
To end normal opening time, I had another session on the Carousel Woods indoor play area. From 4:55pm to 5:27pm I played on all parts of the frame, including going up the ramps and ladders, and up and down the towers through the holes in the various levels. Also I went down every tube slide twice each, and all four Astra slide lanes twice each.

Exclusive Fair Session
Folly Farm closed to the public at 5:30pm. However for us it was the beginning of the best part of the day, our Exclusive Fair Session. Members waited by the Wurlitzer Organ until an attendant told us all was ready.

At 5:46pm all was ready for us to begin riding. The Club was split into two groups, A and B. I was in the same group as Dave Perry, Ryan and Planenut. The plan was to run two rides at once (rides 1 and 2 for explanation purposes), with group A on ride 1 and group B on ride 2, then swap over to have group B on ride 1 and group A on ride 2. We began by taking turns to ride 1950s Caterpillar Ride and 1937 Coronation Speedway.

1950s Caterpillar Ride
The last time I went on a ride like this was Mulan during the Summer Bash 2008 at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach. This goes round and round, and due to undulations in the track, it also gives up and down motion. Part way through the ride, the canopy is put over the riders, so the ride resembles a caterpillar racing around the track. Near the end the canopy is removed. I sat with Planenut in seat number 16.

1937 Coronation Speedway
Cars and motorbikes fixed to a circular wooden undulating track. Planenut sat on motor bike WC1, and I sat next to him on motor bike WE3. The ride went round and round, up and down.

For the next two rides, the groups took turns to ride Rock n' Roll Waltzer and Jets.

Rock n' Roll Waltzer
Self-explanatory, this is a typical fairground waltzer. Each waltzer has a rock star's face and signature on the back. Planenut, Dave Perry and I rode together on waltzer number 3 (Tom Jones).

Jets
Mini jet planes at the ends of arms which radiate from a central hub. When the ride started the planes all went around in a circle, and rose upwards shortly afterwards. However they didn't all go high simultaneously. A third of the planes reached full height, a third went to a midrange height and the remainder (mine being one of them) stayed relatively low. As the ride progressed each plane had a turn at each height; thus after a while my plane went to the midrange height, and eventually to the full height. Finally all planes returned to their stationary height before the ride slowed and stopped.

1938 Dodgem Track
Another common funfair ride, the dodgems aka bumper cars. The group arrangement did not apply here. Instead the cars were filled on a first-come first-served basis. There were just a few members (I was one of them) who couldn't be accommodated.

At the end of that run, everyone who had just ridden the dodgems left the ride. A second run was held for those like me who missed out first time around. The majority of the cars were still empty, and they were filled with members who had already ridden, on a first-come first-served basis. Thus many members were lucky enough to get two goes on the dodgems. Now I'm not too keen on dodgems at the best of times, but I was determined to give it a go during this EFS. I tried my best at driving my car around the track, but at certain times got into difficulty steering it. One member who was watching this time around said "Come on Nick" as I was struggling to steer the car the way I wanted it to go. Thankfully I managed to get going again, but after the ride ended I reminded him I can't drive and therefore that almost certainly explains why I'm not very good with dodgems at funfairs.

Evening Meal
Around 6:40pm it was time for dinner at the café. The meals were served in plastic baskets, hence why this was called a basket meal. When booking we were asked to specify whether we wanted fish and chips, sausage and chips or veggie burger and chips. That doesn't necessarily mean everyone stuck with their original choices whilst being served. I was one of the last to get served, and had what I'd originally specified: fish and chips. They had a few sausages spare, so they let me have one with my fish and chips. A fizzy drink was also included, I chose cola. I sat next to Ryan whilst eating my meal. After I'd finished eating I sat next to Lucy Cosnett and spoke to her about the reasons for my choice of Gong Show act at the 2012 Blackpool Bash earlier this year.

At 7:11pm Nev said something along the lines of "Now you've all eaten, it's time for another spin on the rides". Normally I wouldn't go on rides immediately after eating, but this time I decided to return to riding anyway. My thought was that the rides here would be suitable for riding immediately after eating, unlike rides such as Disko, swinging pirate ship or Freak Out type rides. We split into the two groups we formed at the start, and took turns to ride the 1936 Lakin Swirl and Chair-o-Plane.

1936 Lakin Swirl
Also called the Super Swirl or Lakin Skid, this has waltzer style ride cars with small wheels beneath them. Each car is attached by a pivot to a triangle protruding from the spinning central unit. That results in a rather unusual ride experience; a car rotates as far as it can go in one direction before suddenly being thrown sharply back in the opposite direction. Ryan and I were on car number 4, he controlled the brake.

Chair-o-Plane
Basically a carousel with chairs hanging from chains. As the ride spins the chairs are forced outwards on an angle. A gentle, pleasurable ride, that's all I really need to say about this.

Folly Farm's Famous Gallopers
Traditional galloping horses, no further explanation needed. The group arrangement no longer applied as we all got on here simultaneously. I sat on the horse Hugo. Ryan was on the horse next to me, he asked if I was going to sing "Giddy Up". Therefore whilst the ride was in motion I sang most of Brave Prince. Mind you, there was no point wanting my horse Hugo to giddy up, as the horses all gallop around at a fixed pace. They can't overtake each other unlike the Steeplechase horses or Grand National trains at Blackpool.

1950s Cyclone Twist
To round off, a ride that should be familiar to everyone. This 1950s model obviously looks a bit primitive compared to the more modern ones you tend to see these days (which most of us have are likely to have ridden somewhere, generally called Twister these days). Once again the whole Club queued for this one ride, and the majority of us including me got on the first run. I sat in car number 3 during the first run. Being as I'd been on this sort of thing plenty of times before elsewhere, I knew what to expect. Just as I expected, this 1950s model gave a ride experience more or less the same as more modern models. Great fun, I still think the Cyclone is one of my favourite non-coaster rides.

Afterwards a second run was held primarily for those who'd missed out first time around. The remaining seats were filled with members who had already ridden this first time, on a first-come first-served basis. I was lucky enough to get back on for the second run, this time I sat in car number 4.

Sadly that was the end of our ride session. It's a pity there wasn't time for the Cake Walk.

Drinking Time
Finally the bar was opened so we could each buy ourselves one drink and have a final chat together before we all left Folly Farm around 8:30pm.

Rest Of Saturday
Our day at Folly Farm was now over, and it was time for everyone to head back to where they were staying. Mary and James, who were staying in Saundersfoot, kindly gave me a lift all the way to The Myrtle House Hotel in Tenby where I was staying. When we got there I continued talking them for about ten minutes before saying my final goodbye and leaving the car. I was back in my room just after 9pm, and relaxed there the rest of the evening.

Evening Exclusive Fair Session on the Vintage Funfair rides.
Evening basket meal in the café.
Meeting Nev, Ryan, Dave Perry, Planenut and others for the second day running; plus Lucy Cosnett who wasn't at Oakwood on Friday.

Lowlights
Insufficient time for more rides during the EFS.

Summing Up
Altogether a worthwhile extension to Mega-Glow-Mania at Oakwood. This visit to Folly Farm was undeniably tame compared to Friday at Oakwood, but it was still a great day. I felt it was more relaxed compared to Oakwood. During the day I particularly enjoyed playing on Carousel Woods indoor play structure for about an hour late morning and half an hour late afternoon, as well as one go on the helter skelter. In addition I spent more time than I expected exploring the zoo; it was quite interesting reading the background information about the various animals. What a pity there wasn't time to see the farm section, but there's always another year for that. Best of all was after 5:30pm: a few vintage rides, a basket meal, more vintage rides and a final bar drink before leaving. It was great seeing many members who were at Oakwood on Friday again today, plus Lucy Cosnett who wasn't at Oakwood. Thank you very much Nev for arranging today at Folly Farm, and also to Mary and James for kindly giving me a lift right back to my hotel front door in Tenby.

Reluctantly I won't be attending either day of Loopathon this year. Presumably therefore my next RCCGB trip will be the Blackpool Bash 2013.
